What to Expect After Liposuction Surgery

Immediately After Surgery

  • Swelling, bruising, and mild to moderate discomfort are normal.
  • Some fluid drainage from small incisions is expected.
  • A compression garment helps minimize swelling and aid skin retraction.
  • Temporary numbness, tightness, or tingling in treated areas is common.

First Few Days

  • Swelling peaks around day 2–3.
  • Bruising and soreness improve gradually.
  • Feeling of stiffness or heaviness in treated areas is normal.
  • Short walks are encouraged to reduce the risk of blood clots.

First Month

  • Swelling and bruising gradually fade.
  • Some lumpiness or firmness may occur — massage helps improve texture.
  • Most patients return to work within a week, but avoid heavy exercise for 3–4 weeks.

Final Results

  • Visible improvements appear after 4–6 weeks; final contour takes 3–6 months.
  • Maintain stable weight and healthy habits for long-lasting results.

Week 1 (Days 1–7)

  • Wear compression garment 24/7, except for brief hygiene breaks.
  • Sleep slightly elevated to minimize swelling.
  • Walk gently each day to promote circulation.
  • Take all medications as prescribed by Dr. Khazbak.
  • Expect mild drainage from incisions — use pads as instructed.
  • Showers usually allowed after 2–3 days if cleared.

Week 2 (Days 8–14)

  • Swelling and bruising begin to subside.
  • Continue compression garment day and night.
  • Lymphatic drainage massage may be introduced if recommended.
  • Light daily activity is fine, but avoid workouts.
  • Mild numbness or firmness is still normal.

Weeks 3–4

  • Swelling improves further; most bruising resolves.
  • Garment may be worn mostly during the day (per surgeon guidance).
  • Gentle stretching or walking can resume.

Weeks 5–6

  • Switch to part-time or night-only compression if approved.
  • Resume normal gym or aerobic workouts gradually.
  • Swelling decreases significantly; shape refines.

Weeks 7–12

  • Final contour and skin smoothness continue to develop.
  • Nearly all activities can be resumed.
  • Minor residual swelling may linger in certain areas.

3–6 Months

  • Final results achieved with natural contour and tone.
  • Scars fade to fine lines over time.
  • Results remain stable with consistent weight management.
