Breast Augmentation (with implants)
AFTER CARE
What You Can Expect After Breast Implants:
- Swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, especially around the chest and underarms.
- Tightness or chest pressure due to muscle and skin stretching.
- Initial breast shape may look high or firm; implants will settle over 6–12 weeks.
- Temporary numbness or increased sensitivity in the nipple or breast skin.
- Mild pain or discomfort, especially in the first 3–5 days, manageable with medication.
- Slight asymmetry during healing is normal and usually resolves over time.
Week-by-Week Recovery Timeline
Surgical Bra Instructions
The surgical bra should be worn continuously (24/7) for at least 4–6 weeks post-surgery unless Dr Khazbak advises otherwise. It should fit snugly but not cause discomfort. Remove only during short showers. Wearing the surgical bra helps minimize swelling and supports the implants.
Breast Implant Displacement Exercises
If Dr Khazbak recommends it, you may begin implant displacement exercises in Week 2. These help maintain implant softness and positioning.
Week 1 (Day 1–7)
- Rest and avoid raising arms above shoulder level.
- Sleep on your back with upper body elevated (2–3 pillows).
- Take medications as prescribed (pain relief and antibiotics).
- Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling (10–15 minutes at a time).
- Light indoor activity as tolerated.
Week 2–3
- Avoid driving until off pain medication and full arm movement returns.
- Resume light household activity.
- Avoid chest workouts or lifting.
- Start scar care (silicone gel or sheets) if healed.
- Begin gentle lymphatic massage if approved.
Week 4–6
- Resume light cardio (no heavy chest strain).
- Return to work if comfortable.
- Continue scar treatment and monitor settling.
After 6 Weeks
- Resume most activities gradually.
- Start light chest exercises if cleared.
- Sleep in any position.
- Breasts continue softening and shaping.
